Pride and relief as good news arrives

Whitburn Academy pupils are reaping the rewards of their hard work.

Among those celebrating success at the school were Alyssa Hilditch, Kerry Gordon, Adam Gilmour and Anna Martin.

Anna Martin (17) said she could not believe it when she learned she had been awarded five Higher As and kept checking the text message to be sure.

She is now getting ready to study history and psychology at Glasgow University.

She said: “I’m so happy. I want to thank my mum and dad – they were an amazing support – and also all my teachers for the effort they put in.”

Alyssa (15) will go on to fifth year after the holidays, confident her excellent National 5 results of four As and two Bs will stand her in good stead for her plans to study biochemistry at university.

She said: “I am shocked and amazed at my results. I want to thank my parents for calming me down the night before my exams and my teachers for pushing me to do better.”

Kerry (17) is celebrating achieving five Highers; an impressive three As and two Bs.

She is really happy with the results.

Kerry aid: “I plan to finish my sixth year here then move on to early years teaching, preferably through an apprenticeship.”

Adam (16) gave his advice to anyone sitting exams: “Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.”

He need not be too concerned about preparing for the worst as he achieved four Higher As and one B.

He said: “I am so proud of myself as I feel as though all my hard work has finally paid off.”
