Prices of desi variety chilli all-time high

Thanks to the huge demand for desi variety of chilli widely used in preparation of pickles, a section of farmers who opted to sell their produce at the fag end of the current procurement season are reaping rich dividends at the Enumamula agriculture market yard in Warangal.

While many chilli growers suffered huge losses due to low yield of the crop because of pest attack and hailstorm devastation late in December last year and the first week of January this year, a section of farmers are getting a lucrative price for the desi variety of chilli owing to the steady rise in demand for the particular variety of chilli in the market.

The desi variety of chilli has been consistently commanding a better price from the very beginning of the present season compared to last year.

The price of desi variety of chilli hit an all-time high fetching a record remunerative price of ₹52,000 per quintal to a farmer at the Enumamula market yard on Tuesday.

Most of the farmers and traders, who stored their stocks in the cold storages, stand to gain significantly owing to the rising trend in chilli prices in both domestic and international markets.

In Khammam, the teja variety of red chilli continues to command a relatively better price in the range of ₹17,000 to ₹18,500 per quintal when compared to the previous year.
