Plug-in hybrid and diesel models become cheaper than most of its European competition.

Retail prices for the Volvo XC90 have dropped by around one million baht in Thailand thanks to Malaysian assembly of the brand’s SUV flagship.
The highlight of the realigned range is the T8 plug-in hybrid. In top-spec Inscription form, the semi-electric XC90 costs 4.89 million baht, which is 1.1 million baht cheaper than the version imported from Sweden.
This particular T8 undercuts the Mercedes-Benz GLE500e AMG Dynamic by 100k but is 191k dearer than the BMW X5 40e. However, Volvo Car Thailand is countering this with the lower Momentum spec, which asks for 4.49 million baht.
Volvo is touting two key features that are superior over its German rivals including 407hp performance and 40km all-electric driving range.
Meanwhile, the diesel-powered D5 of the XC90 now costs 4.19 million baht to comfortably undermine two just-launched seven-seat SUVs in price. The Audi Q7 45 TDI and Land Rover Discovery TD6 are priced at 4.799 million and 6.999 million baht accordingly.
While the XC90 comes with 225hp four-cylinder diesel engine, the Q7 and Discovery are powered by circa-250hp V6 units.
