Prices for replica footie kits set to tumble by a third due to economic crisis

Fans fed up with rip-off football shirts can finally celebrate – they are falling in price.

Replica kits are set to tumble by a third because of the economic crisis.

Adult Manchester United tops will fall from £65 to £45. Junior shirts priced at £49.50 this season are set to fall by a similar amount.

The cuts were disclosed by an insider close to Adidas, which makes strips worn by many Premier League aces such as Man United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Fellow German giant Puma is said to be planning similar price cuts for the shirts it makes for other clubs. Arsenal ’s could be cut from £60 to £40.

The source said: “Puma and Adidas are in talks with clubs, letting them know they are prepared to drop the cost of kits by as much as 30 per cent.

Both companies want clubs to pass these reductions to fans.”

Adidas has been given a bailout from the German government after it revealed a 93 per cent slump in profits.

It supplies Leicester City, Sheffield United and Wolves while Puma has deals with Newcastle, Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

Championship leaders Leeds will be wearing Adidas next season, while second-placed West Brom will have a Puma-made kit.

Replica kit deals are worth around £400million to Premier League clubs.
