Price of Mercedes-Benz CLS300d falls in Thailand

Thanks to local assembly, Mercedes’ coupe-like sedan is 600,000 baht cheaper than before.

Mercedes-Benz Thailand has introduced a locally built version of the CLS, a style-led sedan based on the more traditional E-Class.

Equipped with 2.0-litre diesel-turbo and nine-speed automatic, the CLS300d costs 4.39 million baht, 600,000 baht less than its imported counterpart with the same AMG Premium trim.

The brand’s latest diesel is known by the code of OM654 and is also used in the E-Class. But while the E220d has single turbo developing 194hp, the CLS300d uses two blowers for a higher 245hp.

In terms of body style, the CLS is without a direct rival. However, marketers at Mercedes place it against the Audi A7 Sportback and BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo.

The Thai-built 630d M Sport costs a higher 4.699 million baht but has a bigger 3.0-litre diesel-turbo generating 265hp. Drive is via eight-speed automatic.

The A7 Sportback has a sleeker hatchback profile than the 6 Series GT and is being pitched with some driving performance to help offset its higher price due to its imported status.

The 55 TFSI features 340hp 3.0-litre V6 petrol-turbo, 48V mild hybrid and seven-speed dual-clutch auto. It goes for 5.399 million in S-Line spec.
