Thanks to local assembly, the sporty version of Mercedes’ mid-size SUV is 1.1 million baht cheaper than before.

Mercedes-Benz Thailand has officially launched the Thai-built version of the AMG-fettled GLC43 Coupe.
It becomes the second AMG-designated model after the C43 Coupe to roll off assembly lines at the brand’s Samut Prakan facility.
As a result, the GLC43 Coupe costs 4.69 million baht -- 1.1 million baht cheaper than when it was previously imported in completely built-up form.
Powering the sporty mid-size SUV is 367hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6. The engine isn’t to be confused with the upgraded 390hp version that will make its way into the facelifted C43 Coupe due in Thai showrooms in the final quarter of this year.
At such a price, the GLC43 Coupe could be snaring potential punters of the Porsche Macan, probably the most car-like and sportiest SUV to drive in this class.
Archrival BMW has never offered the M40i of the X4 in Thailand and it remains to be seen whether the second-gen model, due for sale in the country this year, would go head-to-head with the GLC43 Coupe apart from just offering four-pot diesel power.
The Volvo XC60 T8 is a new-age alternative to the GLC43 Coupe as it derives its 400hp-plus power from a 2.0-litre turbo and supercharged inline-four petrol-electric hybrid with plug-in facility. The XC60 T8 is priced between 3.29-3.59 million baht.
