Arnie Somogyi's Ambulance/Eddie Henderson, on tour
Bassist Arnie Somogyi and former Herbie Hancock trumpeter Eddie Henderson met when Somogyi was an impromptu accompanist for a Henderson visit six years ago. They hit it off, and when Somogyi formed his own band, Ambulance, the bassist called the American trumpeter and one-time medical doctor on a whim. Henderson now joins Ambulance for this tour - playing music generated by all the UK band-members, much of it collectively-invented during a two-week workshop residency at Snape Maltings in Aldeburgh in 2006. But if some of the associations of the music are rural-English, Somogyi and his musicians are almost as devotedly steeped in US jazz as Henderson is, and the result is both idiosyncratically composed and inventive.
