PrettyLittleThing's Black Friday sale on with up to 100% discounts - yes, really

PrettyLittleThing, the women's fashion retailer, has launched its Black Friday sale, including discounts of up to 100 per cent.

Yes, you read that right: 100 per cent discounts.

Well, perhaps "discount", singular, would be more accurate. We can spot one item that is 100 per cent off right now: a slinky tie front shirt, which is usually £15 but is currently available for the low, low price of nothing. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Free. As PrettyLittleThing itself says, it really doesn't make sense.

Of course, that's if you can actually get on to the page to add it to your basket - clearly lots of people are trying to do the same, because that particular page keeps giving us a time-out error. But keep trying and you might manage it.

The sale has plenty else included, though, from £2 bikinis to rings for just £1.50. Some of it is very cheap. See the full sale here.

And on top of the listed discounts, you can grab an extra 10 per cent off with the code "BONKERS10".

However, some discounts are only available for an hour, so grab them quick.

PrettyLittleThing ran a similar promotion last year, in which some of its items were available for as little as 8p. It drew criticism from some shoppers and environmental campaigners for encouraging fast fashion and the environmental damage that it causes.

“The perpetuating cycle of over production and consumption relies on the use of natural resources that contributes substantially to environmental degradation,” Kerry Bannigan, founder of the Conscious Fashion Campaign, told the Guardian last year.

“The whole fastfashion value chain from manufacturing to delivery all plays a role in the destruction of ecosystems and increased pollution. Is an unfathomable cheaply priced garment truly worth the depletion of our water, soil and air?”

The owner of PrettyLittleThing, Boohoo, has also come under fire for the poor conditions in which its staff work. The company was accused of not adequately protecting staff in its supply chain from Covid-19. Some of those staff are reportedly paid as little as £3.50 per hour.
