Pretty Woman: The Musical will open in London West End next year

A London run of Pretty Woman: The Musical has been announced to open in the West End next year.

The show, based on the 1990 film of the same name starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, begins performances in February at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Pretty Woman closed its run on Broadway last month, after Samantha Barks originated the lead role of Vivian last summer. It tells the story of a sex worker who is hired by a wealthy businessman to be his companion.

It features original songs by Jim Vallance and Grammy Award-winner Bryan Adams, with a book by the film’s director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J.F. Lawton. Kinky Boots and Legally Blonde director Jerry Mitchell directs and choreographs the show.

Roy Orbison’s ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’, which inspired the title of the film, features in the musical.

David Rockwell provides set design, with costumes by Gregg Barnes, lighting by Kenneth Posner and Philip S. Rosenberg, sound design by John Shivers and orchestration by Will Van Dyke. Casting has yet to be announced.

Performances start on February 14 2020. Tickets go on general sale on Friday September 13, but a pre-sale opens at midday today with GO London here.
