Pretty in pink Boutique Desserts cafe opens in Long Eaton

Long Eaton's first dedicated desserts shop has opened - and there's no missing it.

With an eye-catching pink exterior Boutique Desserts stands out on the corner of Derby Road and Hamilton Road, close to the town centre.

This sweet-toothed lovers' haven has brownies, sundaes, waffles, cookie dough and gelato, making it impossible to resist a sugar-fix.

Cookie dough and sundaes come with chocolate, banoffee and strawberries. Fresh waffles, made to order, have similar toppings, plus Ferrero Rocher, Peanut Crunch, Lotus Biscoff and Time for Daim

Dessert fans can also choose from rich brownies, cheesecakes, Victoria Sponge, chocolate fudge cake and old school puddings of jam roly poly and Corn Flake tart and custard.

Milkshakes range from classics and chocolate bars (just about every one imaginable) to premium shakes with chocolate and fruity flavours finished off with whipped cream.

Once a gift shop and before that a hat shop for many years, new owner Vakas Ahmed said he wanted a very different look for the business, which will focus on take-out but also has seating for up to eight inside.

He said: "I was just going to the gym around the corner and the shop caught my eye. I'm from a family who own a burger takeaway, curry house and dessert shop in Wakefield and I had a vision," said Mr Ahmed, who has given the shop a 'millennial pink' makeover, influenced by the Instagrammable pink cafes in London.

After placing their order, selfie queens can get the perfect shot in front of the pink flower wall.

"Today is about smiles, quality service and quality products. Nothing is batch made. By using local suppliers it's helping other and creates that bond in the community," he said.

Following yesterday's soft opening, there will be a grand opening on a date to be decided, once everything is up and running smoothly. The day will raise funds for local homeless charity the Canaan Trust.

And when the business has bedded in, an online delivery service will launched and new lines added.

"I will be looking into gluten free and vegan options. I have had so many questions about it so it's important - you've got to cater for everyone," added Mr Ahmed.

American Fanta in flavours not normally available in UK shops such as mango will be stocked along with US-style pick and mix.

Natalie Davies, 33, has been watching and waiting for the shop to open and was one of the first customers to visit, ordering a Daim waffle.

She said: "I work in Little Pickle sandwich shop across the road so we've been waiting and checking Facebook to see when it would open."

Joined by her daughter Summer Billington, seven, her sister and nephew, Natalie added: "It's very stylish, very nice."

Will she be a regular? "Is the grass green?" she said.

The shop will be open Tuesday to Sunday, from 5-11pm at the moment, with plans to open earlier eventually.
