Former Liverpool ace Didi Hamann believes comments from former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg are "pretty disturbing".
The ex-official hit out at Jurgen Klopp's comments around Manchester United's penalty record, labelling the German as a "hypocrite".
It has reignited the debate about United's penalty record ahead of this weekend's top-of-the-table clash at Anfield.
However, the comments from Clattenburg have led to bigger concerns dating back to Sir Alex Ferguson's time in charge at Old Trafford.
Clattenburg seemed to admit that referees used to favour United when Ferguson was in charge at the club, stating: "He [Klopp] is wrong to suggest there is an aura around United that sees them given favourable decisions.
"There used to be when Fergie was there, but that has eased massively since he left."
Naturally, plenty have picked up on that comment and Liverpool great Didi Hamann is among them, taking to social media to have his say.
"Pretty disturbing to hear that from someone who refereed during Ferguson’s reign, admitting there used to be bias towards Man United," he tweeted.
The situation will certainly add further fuel to the fire in this weekend's match between the two sides, where United hold a three-point lead over Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table following a midweek victory over Burnley.
