Pret releases its secret 'quick and easy' chocolate chip cookie recipe

Since being in lockdown, a number of our favourite food outlets have released their top-secret recipes to help with our cravings.

McDonald's told us how to make its breakfast muffins, Greggs explained what's needed to recreate its sausage, bean and cheese melts, and now Pret A Manger has revealed how to bake its delicious dark chocolate chip cookies.

After being inundated with requests to release its recipe, the much-missed chain finally caved.

On its website, Pret says its recipe feeds eight, is suitable for vegetarians and is best served warm.

A Pret spokesperson wrote on Facebook: “We’ve been inundated with requests for the secret to our Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

Pret A Manger started sharing recipes online via the #PretRecipeBook (Pret)

“This recipe is perfect for rookie cookie makers or seasoned pro-bakers.”

Fans were also encouraged to share pictures of their recreations with the #PretRecipeBook hashtag.

And already the pictures are flooding in.

One person tweeted: "Made them today, thanks @Pret they went down a storm will all the family #PretRecipeBook."

And another agreed: "Thanks for this quick and easy recipe @Pret... delicious Saturday treat #PretRecipeBook".

Ingredients

  • 110g unsalted butter
  • 170g caster sugar
  • 85g light brown sugar
  • One whole egg
  • 190g self-raising flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • 120g large dark chocolate buttons

Method

1. Preheat your oven to 180°C

2. Melt the butter in the microwave or saucepan - but make sure it's not hot - and then beat it together with both types of sugar - either with a hand whisk or an electric one if you just can't wait to taste the cookies

3. Add the egg and beat for 10-15 seconds - but don't overbeat it, the cookies won't be as yummy

4. Add the flour and salt to the egg mixture and mix until you’ve formed a smooth dough

5. Once that's done, add the chocolate buttons and mix with your hands

6. Form eight little balls of dough and place them on a non-stick or lined baking tray - make sure there's plenty of space between them otherwise they'll stick together

7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden.

8. Let them cool for 30 minutes before serving
