Cafe chain Pret a Manger is to open stores inside Tesco supermarkets with the first one launching next month.
The sites - which will be run by Pret rather than Tesco - will serve fresh food and hot drinks prepared by baristas.
The first shop will open in June at the Tesco superstore in Kensington, west London, with another three to follow this summer.
The other stores that will open as part of the trial will be “some in London, some outside”, according to The Times.
It comes after Pret started selling frozen croissants and granolas in Tesco stores as part of a “bake-at-home” range.
The coffee chain has also recently launched a £20-a-month where you can get up to five coffees a day.
Pret has been restructuring its business after warning that it’s lost a decade of growth due to the coronavirus crisis.
It’s resulted in announcing the planned closure of 30 stores and 2,800 jobs cut in recent months, after admitting its sales have dived 74% since the start of the pandemic in March.
Pano Christou, chief executive officer at Pret, said: “Last year, we set ourselves the challenge of bringing Pret to more people.
“Since then, we’ve launched and grown our Pret-at-Home range, bringing the joy Pret to people’s homes across the country.”
He added: “We’re taking this further and bringing the experience of Pret to select Tesco stores, making it even easier for customers to enjoy our freshly made food and organic coffee.”
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to announce a new four store partnership with Pret giving our customers an exciting new food to go offer.
“The first Pret will open in our Kensington store in June and we’re looking forward to seeing how customers respond to this trial.”
