Prestwick church's public duty to keep heart of town alive

Church members are keeping the heart of their community alive, thanks to the installation of life saving equipment.

St Nicholas Church, Prestwick, fundraised to have a defibrillator installed on the outside wall of the church.

The church, on Bellevue Road is just off Prestwick’s Main Street and a central location to the town.

Church member Mandy White, who was the main driver of securing the defib, said: “The 65 Club have one at the other end of the town so we as a church thought we had a public duty to get one.

“There’s still a lot of pubs at this end so there’s a lot of people that could benefit from it.

“I’m a big advocate for it- it’s just something I’m very passionate about.

“I’m going to be running a training day to show people how to use it.

“We always get told ‘it’s so easy to use’ but people get nervous about it.

“So if people can see it, hear how the instructions are read, then they might be less apprehensive about using it.”

Mandy will be holding a training day on Saturday, March 14 for those wishing to learn how to operate the new defib.

Twelve spots are available. To book, phone the church office on 01292 477613.
