Prestwick Christmas lights switch on set to enjoy stage to itself

Christmas light fans in Prestwick will get the festive stage to themselves this year.

Organisers have ensured no clash of dates with nearby towns, Ayr and Troon, as has been the case in recent years.

That means Santa will rock into the packed Main Street on Sunday, November 24 for the only show in town.

Ayr and Troon go one week earlier on November 17.

The event is driven by the Prestwick Business Association and community leaders.

A spokesman said: “The attendance throughout the years has been outstanding and we hope to maintain the strong community spirit during this year’s event by building on previous years.”

Legendary DJ Colin McArdle hosts this year’s show with main stage performances from Heathfield Primary, Drums N Roses, Monkton Primary School, Dansarena, Infinity Choir, St Ninians Primary School, Fraser Stokes and The Voice semi finalist Craig Ward.

Choirs from Kingcase and Glenburn Primaries will take the stage in the South Church.

And the much loved festive market will return on Station road, featuring local traders.

Boydfield Gardens will host the Rotary Club of Prestwick with their Santa’s Grotto and a children’s entertainment zone.

Friends of Broadway will also show two films, hosted by the Royal Air Force Association.

At 1pm it’s ELF followed by The Santa Clause at 5.30pm.

Both films are family friendly, there is no entry fee but they will be accepting charity donations.
