Prestwick aerospace mechanic to run London Marathon for Alzheimer’s Scotland.

A super-fit mechanic is to launch a charity bid by tackling the streets of London.

Dave Jackson, 27, will compete in the city’s marathon as part of a bid to raise money for Alzheimer’s Scotland.

The Ayr runner’s gran, Margaret, lives with dementia and has inspired the cash drive.

Dave, who works at Collins Aerospace in Prestwick, raised £6000 for Chron’s & Colitis on his previous marathon effort in 2014.

He said: “When I ran London before the atmosphere was unbelievable.

“And knowing that I’m running for a cause that hits so close to my heart is keeping me motivated during my training.

“I’m hoping that my experience of running it five years ago has helped me with my preparation for the day.”

David, who completed in a time of 4:33:22 back in 2014, admits a knee injury this time may hamper his bid to smash the time.

But he smiled: “Breaking five hours would be nice.

“As part of my fundraising I’ve been asking people to pay £1 to guess my time.

“The closest will get a £30 voucher to the restaurant of their choice.

“I’d also like to say a huge thanks to everybody who supported my fundraising night at the Cambusdoon Sports Club which raised £1900.”
