A Prestwick man is swapping Scotland’s winter for the West Indies.
Allan Haggo, 60, is one of only two Scottish umpires who will officiate at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
The call-up is a major feather in the cap for the Prestwick Cricket Club stalwart who is a former president after coming through the ranks as a youngster and starring in the first team.
The tournament runs from January 14 to February 5 with Scotland in action on the opening day against Sri Lanka in Guyana.
West Indies and Australia make up the Scots’ four-team group.
A Cricket Scotland spokesman said: “Allan and David McLean are only the second and third Scottish umpires to be invited to an U19 World Cup, so this is a tremendous achievement for them both.
"It is a testament to their dedication and hard work as well as reflecting excellent recent performances in International series and events.”
Umpires manager Ian Ramage added: “The ICC consider an U19 World Cup as the pinnacle for an umpire from an associate nation.
“I’m sure they will do well and represent Scotland with aplomb and I hope they really enjoy the experience.”
