Preston North End injury situation including summer signing ahead of Bolton Wanderers pre-season friendly

Bolton Wanderers take on Preston North End tomorrow evening in the club's latest pre-season friendly ahead of the League One campaign.

Ian Evatt takes his side to the County Ground in Leyland for a 7pm kick-off against the Deepdale outfit.

Wanderers are unbeaten so far in their pre-season schedule prior to the new campaign in the third tier of English football.

Victories over Longridge Town and Atherton Collieries were followed with a late draw against FC United of Manchester on Saturday, when defender George Johnston's late header cancelled out the second half opener by the non-league side from a trialist.

But Bolton were very much the inferior side at Broadhurst Park, as Evatt acknowledged after the game, and Wanderers will be seeking an improvement against North End.

Like Wanderers, PNE are unbeaten so far in pre-season with victories over Bamber Bridge and Celtic, sandwiching a draw over St Johnstone.

After the latest game for North End, a 1-0 win at Celtic Park, McAvoy gave an injury update on how his squad is looking at present.

Summer signing Matthew Olosunde picked up an injury to his Achilles against St Johnstone, but McAvoy is hopeful the defender will not be out for too long.

Midfielder Alan Browne has returned to training and goalkeeper Declan Rudd made his first appearance for North End since the start of 2021 in the win over Celtic, after recovering from knee cartilage damage, while another summer signing in the form of Izzy Brown also got his first game for the club over the weekend.

McAvoy told the club website: “Matthew Olosunde picked up an issue with his Achilles at the St Johnstone game, but hopefully he won’t be too far away, and other than that we’re looking in decent enough shape.

“Browney’s now started to train as well. Izzy [Brown] got his first minutes, Declan [Rudd] back for his first game, first 90 minutes, and I thought Declan had a really good game, so I’m really pleased.”
