Preston North End boss Frankie McAvoy visits Hamilton Accies after Celtic triumph

BY BEN MCNICOL

Preston North End boss Frankie McAvoy revisited his old stomping ground yesterday afternoon to send a message to the club and fans ahead of the Scottish Championship season.

The 53-year-old from Bellshill is heading into his first full season in charge of the Lilywhites after being appointed head coach on a permanent basis following Alex Neil’s departure in March.

McAvoy was paired with Neil after Billy Reid’s departure in April 2013, and it’s fair to say it went relatively well.

They steered Accies into the top-flight with a memorable play-off win against Hibernian and then had Hamilton sitting top of the Premiership within six months.

McAvoy was the assistant manager when Hamilton won their first game at Celtic Park since 1938 and last week, he came up trumps at Parkhead once again as his Preston side ran out winners in a pre-season friendly against Ange Postecoglou's men.

In a short video, McAvoy said: “Come on Accies, I’d love to see you back in the Premiership. Give us another good seven years so I can watch it while I am down south.”

Brian Rice is in the hunt for two or three signings ahead of the Championship opener against Raith Rovers and the Accies faithful are hoping that their former assistant manager could lend a helping hand by providing a player on-loan.
