Preston goalkeeper Chris Maxwell a reported loan target for Hibs

Hibs are reportedly pursuing a loan deal for Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.

It's understood Maxwell's name is one of a number on a list of potential targets for manager Paul Heckingbottom and the recruitment team to consider.

Israeli international Ofir Marciano is the only senior goalkeeper at Easter Road after Adam Bogdan’s loan from Liverpool came to an end and Ross Laidaw left for Ross County after his Hibs contract expired.

Heckingbottom needs more competition for Marciano, and has identified Maxwell as an ideal choice to come in and challenge for a spot between the sticks according to colleagues at the Daily Record.

That would be easier said that done though given Marciano's form over the second half of last season.

However, the Israeli has been quoted in his homeland as saying he would be open to a move away this summer if a bigger club were to come calling.

28-year-old Maxwell spent the second half of last season on loan at Charlton, who won promotion to the Championship with a dramatic stoppage time win over jack Ross’ Sunderland at Wembley.

Maxwell is behind Declan Rudd and Connor Ripley in the pecking order at Deepdale, where he has been since 2016. Other loan spells in that period have included Wrexham and Fleetwood, and it’s likely Alex Neill will farm him out once again.

The Hibees have made one addition so far this summer with the capture of Adam Jackson from Heckingbottom’s former club Barnsley, although Scott Allan will join on a three-year deal later this month.
