Preston deny reports of £6m bid for Ireland star Callum Robinson

Preston North End have denied reports that newly promoted Norwich City have bid £6m for forward Callum Robinson.

According to Sky Sports, the Canaries are targeting the 24-year-old as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their first season in the top flight for three years.

Robinson netted 12 times in 27 Championship games for Preston last season, finishing the campaign as the sides' top scorer despite being hampered by injuries.

But Preston were quick to deny the claims, reports Lancs Live, posting on social media that no bids had been made.

The club wrote: "Contrary to reports in the media, Preston North End can confirm that they have no bids on the table for any of their players."

Republic of Ireland international Robinson came through the ranks at Aston Villa but only made five appearances for the Midlands side.

He was then loaned out to Preston three times, and Bristol City once, before finally moving to Deepdale on a permanent deal in 2016.

Norwich have been busy this summer, bringing in striker Josip Drmic from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach and Rochdale youngster Daniel Adshead as well as taking Manchester City's Patrick Roberts on loan.

If Robinson does join the Canaries he will have stiff competition to become Norwich's favoured front man as the side boast Teemu Pukki, the top scorer in the Championship last season with 29 goals.

He also bagged the Championship Player of the Year award so any forwards coming in will have to do well to unseat him.
