Preston boss reveals if former Derby County striker will be fit to face Nottingham Forest

Former Derby County striker David Nugent will not be fit to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Preston manager Alex Neil has revealed.

Now back at Preston after a 12-year absence, Nugent, 34, is yet to take to the field this season because of injury.

And Preston's injury problems do not end there, with the Lilywhites still waiting on forward Tom Barkhuizen, who will have a scan on Thursday on an injury.

“He won’t be available for this weekend," said Neil when quizzed on Nugent's fitness.

"But after this game hopefully we can get two good weeks of training in to him over the international break and then, baring any setbacks, he will come in to contention.

“We will get (Barkhuizen) scanned today and then see where we are.”
