Prestigious tournament to be held in West Lothian and televised worldwide

West Lothian is set to host the 2021 Disability Darts World Cup.

Disability Darts Scotland was created in January 2019 by the World Disability Darts Association (WDDA) and their main base is in West Lothian at the Cawburn Sportsbar in Pumpherston.

The self funded organisation is run entirely by volunteers, has an executive committee and trustees and have just applied for charitable status. They already have branches with committees in Ayrshire, the Borders, Dundee, Fife, Glasgow, Lanarkshire and West Lothian.

Despite only being formed last year Scotland were joint winners with England at the UK Home International Disability Darts championships in March.

This achievement led to the WDDA selecting Scotland to host the World Cup in 2021.

Coordinator, Ted McMillan, explained: “There will be over 20 countries represented from across the globe, each bringing teams for the two categories of disabilities, Classic and Compris.

“Over all there will be over 300 disabled players taking part in the World Cup.

“The tournament is from April 29 to May 2 2021. Countries who have confirmed entry reach as far as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Russia, Austria, the USA and South Korea to mention a few.

“We look forward to many countries coming. England are the current World Champions which they won in January 2019, the month of our conception. With the latest results from the UK Home Internationals tournaments in March this year. Scotland will go into this World Cup with great confidence. This is a wonderful opportunity for Scotland to firmly put themselves on the Disability Darts World map.”

Due to lockdown an exact venue for the World Cup has not been confirmed as of yet but it is expected to take place at a hotel in West Lothian.

The event will be televised and streamed worldwide by Winmau TV.
