Prestigious Edinburgh University soars in this year's league table rankings

The Times and The Sunday Times have revealed their annual league table of UK universities, and the University of Edinburgh has shot up in the rankings.

The league table complies a range of data such as teaching quality, research quality, student satisfaction and the number of graduates with Firsts or 2:1 degrees.

Edinburgh University placed 13th in this year's list, rising four places from 17th last year - although still lower than the University of Glasgow, which placed 12th.

The University of Oxford remained steady at second place, while last year's winner the University of Cambridge dropped two spaced to third.

Elsewhere in Edinburgh, Napier University rose six spots to number 57, and Queen Margaret University rose a staggering 23 places to number 66.
