Pressure pays off to ensure Bonhill communities won't be left isolated

Bonhill commuters will not be left stranded when a major road closes - thanks to a pressure campaign by the Lennox Herald and MSP Jackie Baillie.

Communities which would have been left without major provision when the A813 closes completely on Monday for six weeks, have now been handed a reprieve.

We told two weeks ago how operator First Glasgow planned to suspend the 206 and 1E services for the duration of the closure.

The Lennox understands transport regulator SPT had been asking Scottish Power - whose upgrade works have forced to closure - to pick up the tab for a temporary shuttle service since April.

But despite repeated approaches, the body had failed to secure the funding until power bosses confirmed on Tuesday afternoon - following publication of our second article highlighting the issue, and pressure for Labour MSP Jackie - that they will foot the bill.

SPT announced on Friday that the service will be provided by operator First for the duration of the works.
