Pressure mounts to reduce the number of exams pupils sit as Scotland receives results

• The Scottish Greens have urged Education Secretary Mairi McAllan to overhaul the "antiquated" exam system, following the release of almost 150,000 pupils' results.
• The party is calling for the implementation of recommendations from a 2023 expert review conducted by Professor Louise Hayward.
• Professor Hayward's review proposed reducing the number of exams, shifting focus towards coursework and continuous assessment, and abolishing exams for S4 pupils.
• These changes were previously rejected by the former education secretary, Jenny Gilruth, but the Scottish Greens have offered their support to push them through.
• Green education spokesperson Laura Moodie argued that continuous assessment would more accurately reflect a young person's knowledge and abilities, creating a qualifications system fit for the 21st century.
