Presidential Retreat: Jamal Adams spent Jets bye in Turks and Caicos

Jamal Adams needed to get away from football, so he went outside of the United States during the Jets’ Week 4 bye.

Rather than log hours on the field or in the gym, the safety spent his time off relaxing on a sandy beach in Turks and Caicos. Adams said Wednesday that he needed to get away from football to clear his mind, so he didn’t watch any film, nor did he pack a football in his suitcase.

“Man, I got away. I was gone,” Adams said. “I ain’t have a football. I had a glass of wine, sat back and relaxed.”

The All-Pro safety said before the Jets’ bye week that the team would be different coming out of the hiatus. Adams said the main priority for the Jets is to get healthy again, but also to clean up the mistakes they’ve made in the first three games of the season.

“It’s new energy,” Adams said. “Everybody is on the same page, we’re all flying around the ball. We had a great, outstanding practice today on both sides of the ball, even special teams as well. We’re excited to get back out there.”

The last couple of weeks have been rough for Adams. In addition to the losing, Adams has received heat from the media for his social media choices. He removed the Jets from his bios, which raised some eyebrows. Adams then canceled his weekly spot on WFAN after being asked about it multiple times.

It’s unlike Adams draw negative attention. In two-plus years, Adams has been the leader of this group and has made winning his top priority. But a player can only endure so much losing before the frustration gets to them. With the Jets, Adams has a record of 9-26.

The Jets have to hope Adams is right about the team coming out with new energy because what we saw in the first few weeks was depressing. He got his R&R, but it remains to be seen if the rest of the team will look refreshed.
