Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke says LeBron James is the greatest player of all-time

Beto O’Rourke was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 2013-19 representing the 16th Congressional District of Texas. He is now campaigning to become the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Recently, O’Rourke was a guest of Bill Simmons on the Ringer podcast network discussing a number of issues including LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan.

When asked who he thought was the greatest basketball player of all-time, Beto didn’t hesitate–his answer was LeBron James. After declaring that LeBron was the GOAT, Simmons pushed back on Beto by saying that the title clearly belonged to Michael Jordan. O’Rourke didn’t flip-flop, though, staying true to his LeBron pick for the duration of the conversation.

Last season, LeBron wore a hat supporting Beto’s Senate campaign against Ted Cruz to the Los Angeles Lakers game in Texas against the San Antonio Spurs. O’Rourke would eventually lose a narrow race to Cruz for the Senate seat before launching his bid for the White House. James has also used his platform to praise Beto for things like his explanation of why NFL players kneeling during the anthem was not disrespectful as well as what the Texas politician stands for in general. Their personal relationship didn’t seem to play into the GOAT commentary, however, it appears Beto just believes the King is the best to ever do it.
