President Trump to award Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom

A day after winning his first major golf tournament since 2008, golfer Tiger Woods will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

President Trump _ a fellow avid golfer who also overcame multiple sex scandals to achieve big things _ announced his decision to honor Woods on Twitter Monday.

"Spoke to Tiger Woods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday's Masters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!"

Woods' victory Sunday at the 2019 Masters was his 15th major win in a storied career that was derailed in 2009 when more than a dozen women claimed they'd had affairs with the golfer. He also came under scrutiny when he was arrested for driving under the influence in 2017, which he blamed on an unintended combination of prescription drugs. Woods also had to overcome a series of injuries to regain his form, including knee surgery, an ACL repair and several Achilles strains.

Sunday's win marked the fifth time the 43-year-old star won this prestigious Masters tournament, where he last took home the coveted "Green Jacket" in 2005. Woods won his first Masters in 1997 by a record margin when he was only 21. He also won the tournament in 2001 and 2002. Woods took home just over $2 million for his efforts Sunday.

According to trumpgolfcount.com, the President has gone golfing "at least 79" times since taking office in 2016. Earlier this month, Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly released "Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump." The book describes the President as a cheater in golf.
