Donald Trump and Princess Diana: US President once claimed he could have slept with Prince William and Harry’s mother

President Trump’s visit to the U.K. is underway. Though the president will likely have many cordial conversations with a handful of Royal Family members during the trip, Trump's comments about royals in the past haven’t been quite so cordial.

During a Howard Stern interview in 1997, President Trump once bragged that he could have slept with Princess Diana if he wanted to. In the conversation, Stern asked Trump, “Why do people think it’s egoistical of you to say you could’ve gotten with Lady Di? You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her?”

In response, President Trump said, “I think I could have,” following it with a remark that the late princess would have to pass an HIV test before she could sleep with him.

Three years later President Trump had some kinder words for Stern about Princess Diana right after her passing. “I tell you what, I think she’s magnificent,” Trump said. “Lady Di was truly a woman with great beauty. I’ve seen her a couple of times. She was really beautiful, and people didn’t realize that beautiful. She was supermodel beautiful. She had the height, she had the beauty, she had the skin, the whole thing.”

He touched on Princess Diana’s eligibility in his book, The Art of the Comeback, saying, “I only have one regret in the women department, that I never had the opportunity to court Lady Diana Spencer.”

President Trump has been unsympathetic about the Duchess of Cambridge in the past too, once criticising her for sunbathing topless. After the Duchess was photographed nude in France, he tweeted, “Kate Middleton is great – but she shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude – only herself to blame”

He sent another tweet about her moments later saying, “Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!” He reiterated his tweets during a phone call with Fox and Friends saying, “Why would she be outside in the nude? Why would she be standing in the nude in a swimming pool?”

Thankfully, Trump appears to have kept his comments in check on this particular visit.
