President of Namibia launches bizarre criticism of Liverpool

The President of Namibia has bizarrely claimed Liverpool supporters are "becoming orphans" because the "team is dying".

Hage Geingob, who is a Reds supporter himself, hit out at the club on Twitter by using words from the famous Anfield anthem You'll Never Walk Alone by stating that fans "have been walking alone for a while now".

Liverpool reached the Champions League final in 2018, before again returning to the European Cup showpiece in 2019 before claiming the title while amassing 97 points in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp's side then went on to win the Super Cup and Club World Cup during a season in which they dominated the domestic top flight and lifted their first ever Premier League crown in 2019/20.

"We the supporters of Liverpool have been walking alone for a while now," Namibian President Hage Geingob wrote.

"Sadly, we are becoming orphans because our team is dying."

The squad has been hit by a number of damaging injuries this term and exhaustion has set in, culminating in a disappointing defence of the title.

Liverpool sit in eighth place, a full 22 points behind leader Man City and seven points behind Chelsea in fourth, after 28 games.

Despite any chance of winning the league having disappeared while hopes of a top four finish also hang by a thread, the Reds are still competing in the Champions League.

A last-16 second-leg match against RB Leipzig is fast approaching on Wednesday and the Premier League champions hold a 2-0 away advantage.
