President Joe Biden invited to Thornwood by Glasgow community over fast food drive-through drama

As we all know by now, this November will see many of the world's dignitaries descend onto Glasgow for COP26.

And, in the spirit of Glasgow, surely everyone should get a shot at joining in on the action?

Well, clearly this sentiment is shared by a certain west end community council - who have invited the President of the United States of America to have an in-person discussion about a hugely pressing issue.

The Thornwood Community Council have invited President Biden to a meeting with their acting chair, Frank McNab to discuss the issue of forty mature trees being knocked down to make way for a fast food drive-through at Thornwood Roundabout.

It is believed that the President’s motorcade will pass Thornwood roundabout on its way from the airport to the SECC for COP 26.

The meeting is proposed to take place actually on the roundabout at Thornwood and Acting Chairman Frank McNab is confident he can persuade the President to back the council in stopping the new drive-through.

“I am sure President Biden will see immediately that this destruction of our community’s green space is what COP26 is trying to prevent,” Mr McNab said.

“I am in contact with the White House regarding Thornwood Council’s concerns that this fast food station at one of the busiest roundabouts in our city should be being built at a time when President Biden and other world leaders are attending COP26.

”Both President Biden and myself are serious representatives of our respective communities and we realise the importance of preventing the decimation of our green spaces.

“In recognition of the help and support we expect from the President Thornwood Community Council proposes that, when the development is halted, the space is planted with new trees and re-greened and the area be known thereafter as Biden Park.”

When asked if he is nervous about representing Thornwood in a meeting with President Biden, Acting Chairman McNab said: “My shoes will be as well polished as the President's. Thornwood has nothing to worry about in that regard.”

McNab says that the drive through issue has united the community in Thornwood.

“The obstacle has become the way,“ he stated.

All luck to him - we can't wait to see what the POTUS thinks of it!
