President Joe Biden will make an appearance in Kentucky Wednesday to tour the damage left behind by a string of deadly tornadoes that ravaged the state over the weekend.
Biden will begin his trip in Fort Campbell for a briefing on the response operations before visiting Mayfield and Dawson Springs to survey the damage.
Biden is expected to land in Fort Campbell after 10 a.m. Central time. He isn't expected to give a speech, and will instead focus his attention on local officials and victims before departing at approximately 5 p.m.
Biden previously declared the storm that destroyed many parts of Kentucky and killed dozens a major disaster, which unlocks an assortment of federal funds and assistance programs to those impacted by the storm.
The president can declare an emergency for any incident when the president deems federal assistance is needed, according to FEMA.
FEMA help is now available to those impacted by the tornadoes in Caldwell, Fulton, Graves, Hopkins, Marshall, Muhlenberg, Taylor and Warren Counties. People can apply online at disasterassistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362, or by using the FEMA mobile app.
