President Joe Biden traveled to Kentucky this week. He stood next to the Ohio River in front of a notoriously overused bridge connecting Kentucky and Ohio.
The President, joined by public officials including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, former Ohio Senator Rob Portman, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear emphasized how the Brent Spence Bridge project is a good example of a project that will benefit from his bipartisan infrastructure law.
”For decades people have talked about the Brent Spence Bridge, but folks, talking is over, with the bipartisan infrastructure law , we’re finally going to get it done," announced President Biden.
The visit comes days after the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Ohio and Kentucky more than one point six billion dollars to help fund a companion bridge and improvements to the nearly 60 -year-old Brent Spence Bridge, connecting Cincinnati and Covington. The bridge is considered functionally obsolete and carries a significant amount of the nation's economic activity each year.
The President thanked the bipartisan group of officials for helping get this Bridge project funded and said it sends an important message to the country.
“We can work together, we can get things done, we can move the nation forward, we just drop a little bit of our egos and focus on what is needed in the country,” said Biden.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin later this year.
