Presenter Karen Koster to leave Ireland AM and return to Xpose

Karen Koster has revealed she will be leaving Ireland AM this summer.

She plans to return to her regular show Xposé once Ciara Doherty returns from maternity leave.

However, it is unclear when she will swap back to the weekly entertainment and showbiz programme, as she doesn't know exactly when Ciara will return.

The news comes after Mark Cagney announced that he would be departing Ireland AM after 20 years as the anchor, RSVP Live reports.

Speaking in an interview as part of last month's RSVP Magazine covershoot, she said: "The plan is for me to go back to the mothership, back to Xposé.

"Ciara may take her full maternity leave or she might leave it a bit longer than six months, so I will just go wherever I am needed."

It was announced back in March that the mum-of-three would host Ireland AM until Ciara returns.

This further hinted that Karen's stay on their flagship show wasn't permanent.

A statement from station bosses said: “Virgin Media Television today announced that Karen Koster will host Ireland AM until Ciara Doherty returns from maternity leave.

Karen will be on our screens from Monday March 11 and will join Mark Cagney and Alan Hughes (Brian McEvoy)

"Karen will be on our screens from Monday March 11th and will join Mark Cagney and Alan Hughes. Karen will resume her usual presenting duties on Xposé once Ciara returns."

Karen took the full six months maternity leave after having each of her three children Finn, JJ and Eve, but she was worried about being replaced while she was at home.

"Virgin Media is a great place to work, it is very mum friendly and parent friendly.

"Initially, I came back on a three day week after JJ and then I went to a four day week so they are very flexible. It is a funny one, I didn’t feel pressure but I always felt ready to come back to work.

"Not from an insecure point of view, I just had itchy feet and I wanted to get back to work.

"The reality is that everyone is replaceable and the show will go on and I have seen that from working here for the last 15 years.

"I have a really short term view and I take everything week by week, not month by month.

"I get anxious if I overthink things and I will start worrying who will pick Finn up from school if I am working until 6pm on Xposé," she previously told us.
