Preseason Week 1: Bears QB Mitch Trubisky will play vs. Panthers

Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy doesn’t put much stock into preseason, in regards to valuing starters’ health above all else.

Which is why many anticipated most of — if not all — the starters resting for the first game, and possibly the entirety of preseason.

But it appears as if Nagy has decided to get some of his starters some preseason reps, most notably quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who will in fact play in the Bears’ preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.

Trubisky figures to play a series, possibly two, with most of the starting offensive line. Kyle Long is a healthy scratch and figures to be replaced by Ted Larsen, who was listed behind Long on the first unofficial depth chart.

Trubisky will be without a few of his starting receivers, including Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Cordarrelle Patterson, which means we’ll get to see a lot of Anthony Miller, Javon Wims, Riley Ridley, Marvin Hall and Emanuel Hall.

While Tarik Cohen won’t play, we’ll see a lot of rookie David Montgomery and Mike Davis early on.

Here’s the full report of inactives, which doesn’t include any surprises. Big defensive names like Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, Eddie Jackson and Kyle Fuller won’t play in the preseason opener.

Most of them appear to be healthy scratches, with the exception of Trey Burton, who’s still recovering from sports hernia surgery, Kevin Toliver II, who has an undisclosed illness and possibly Adam Shaheen, who had been battling a sore lower back.
