Prescribed burn targets African Lovegrass in Majura

A prescribed burn will be held in Majura on Tuesday afternoon to stop the spread of African Lovegrass.

The 5-10 hectare burn is a continuation of an operation first conducted on August 1. The burn will take place in grasslands between Pialligo Avenue and Oaks Estate Road in Majura.

ACT Parks and Conservation have warned that while conditions are expected to minimise smoke visibility, temporary smoke cover is possible across the capital.

People with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke.

Parks and conservation staff will continue to monitor the burn site until smoke has not been visible for 24 hours. A buffer zone of 20 metres will be in place.
