Preparing your charity for the future – live discussion

No one knows what the future holds, but if it reflects recent events in the voluntary sector it’s not going to be a easy ride. Over the past few months, a new government has been elected, concerns have been raised over outspoken charity leaders such as Kids Company’s Camila Batmanghelidjh, while fundraising methods – direct mailing and cold calling – and data handling continue to be investigated by sector regulators.

Add to this demands for greater transparency, the pressure to retain skilled staff, diminishing funding and the increased demand for services – the list of risks that litter the future path of the sector is daunting.

But careful planning and prudent leadership can help ensure charities’ vital work continues unhindered. So how can voluntary sector leaders future-proof their organisations? Join the Guardian Voluntary Sector Network and a panel of experts on Friday 17 July from 12pm-1.30pm to debate how to approach sustainability.

Topics of discussion:

  • How charities can put together a business plan that their trustee board and funders will find compelling
  • What are the commonly overlooked risks and charity leaders’ main concerns for the future?
  • Is innovation worth charities’ cash? What tips are there for planning technology or database improvements? How can the case for digital investment be made effectively?
  • Changes in regulation that could present serious difficulties for the way charities are run and raise funds
  • How can a charity future-proof its staff? What should the priorities be in terms of training? How can you engage your staff in your organisation’s strategy?

To participate you need to register for a Guardian ID and log in prior to the discussion. To create an ID, click here.
