'Prepared to surrender' - Man United Darwin Nunez claim made as Liverpool seek transfer

Liverpool have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

The Reds have identified Nunez as their top transfer target this summer, as Jurgen Klopp looks to reshape his attack. With Sadio Mane attracting interest from Bayern Munich, and Takumi Minamino likely to head for the exit door, a new attacker is a priority addition for Liverpool.

A fee is yet to be agreed between Liverpool and Benfica over Nunez, despite suggestions the player has already told his family and friends he is moving to Anfield. Reports in Portugal on Friday claimed Nunez has informed those close to him that he intends to move to Merseyside, despite interest from other clubs including Manchester United.

However, according to a fresh report from Goal, Man United have cooled their interest on signing Nunez. It has been claimed that United are “prepared to surrender” to Liverpool in the battle to sign the 22-year-old.

The report adds that United are keen on signing a striker, but that it will not be Nunez. It goes on to say that Erik Ten Hag’s side are “ready to bypass” the chance of signing Nunez, paving the way for Liverpool to get a deal done.

There have also previously been claims of a five-year deal having been negotiated with the player and his representatives. However, there has still been no agreement between Liverpool and Benfica over a fee.

The Reds will not make a move at any cost and have noted Benfica's asking price of a flat €100million (£85.5m), although the Portuguese side are believed open to a structured deal which would see an initial €80m (£68.4m) set fee with €20m (£17.1m) in add-ons.
