Prenton Park pub set to be sold under merger plans

The Prenton Park pub could be sold under new plans submitted by the pub's owners following a merger between two of the region's largest pub management companies.

The pub, which was built in 1880, and first opened as the Prenton Park Hotel in 1887, is opposite Prenton Park, the home of Tranmere Rovers , and is used by fans on matchdays.

The pub is one of three Birkenhead pubs that could be sold to new ownership over a planned merger between two pub management companies.

The other two pubs that would be sold under the proposals are the Beehive Hotel, on Church Road, and the Imperial Tavern, on Whitfield Street.

Both the Beehive Hotel and the Imperial Tavern are also under the same ownership and would be affected by the merger deal.

All three pubs are currently owned by the Ei Group but would be sold off by the new ownership under the proposals.

The plans, come as a result of proposed merger between Ei Group and Stonegate Pub Company which would see the latter sell off the three pubs for competition reasons.

The three pubs could be put on the market as soon as next month.

The final decision over the future of the pubs will be taken by the Competition and Markets Authority will be made in February.

However, the decision over the future of the three venues could be postponed until April 2020 if the regulator seeks an extension.
