Premiership prize money revealed as pot rises to record high

SPFL clubs will split a record prize money pot with £25million set to be paid out.

The money distributed is at an all-time high and increases by a healthy £2m on last season.

Celtic are within touching distance of an eighth straight Premiership crown that will bank them £3.35m, clocking in at 13.4 per cent of the total amount.

The top-flight runner-up will rake in £2.4m, 9.6 per cent in comparison.

Third place will receive £2.06m (8.25 per cent) and fourth will take home £1.81 (7.25 per cent).

The Championship winners will receive £562,500 (2.25 per cent), League One's champions get £125,000 (0.5 per cent) and League 2's are set to pocket £67,500 (0.27 per cent).

The 2019/19 campaign has also seen record amounts paid to clubs in the Betfred Cup and IRN-BRU Cups, while TV money and parachute payments are also an at all-time high.

SPFL chief Neil Doncaster insists the continued growth of prize money highlights the progress Scottish football is making.

He said: “This season’s fee payments demonstrate the continued growth of the game in Scotland and reflect the huge strides that have been made by the SPFL and its member clubs alike.

“The SPFL remains committed to growing our game in the financial interests of all 42 member clubs.

"Our recently announced long-term broadcast contracts with Sky Sports, Premier Sports, BBC Scotland and MG ALBA from 2020 put the SPFL in a strong and confident position for the future.”
