Premiere of film featuring huge Leeds cast to be streamed for free this weekend

Cinemas may still be closed due to the lockdown, but you can still get your movie fix this weekend by streaming the premiere of a brand new film shot right here in Leeds.

Holbeck-based theatre company Slung Low have announced that their new short film, The Good Book, will be free-to-air online on Friday, May 1.

It has been produced alongside the newly-formed Leeds People's Theatre and features a cast of more than 100 people from all over the city,

You may even recognise a few of the filming locations, with scenes shot at Leeds Town Hall, Leeds Central Library and Holbeck Cemetery.

Angus Imrie, famous for his roles in Fleabag and The Archers, stars alongside Riana Duce in a dystopian future Leeds.

The Good Book, which tells the story of a society that is divided between loyalists of the powerful Queen Bear and radical followers of Galahad, was overseen by artistic director and executive director Alan Lane.

Screenwriter James Phillips said: "It’s an incredible privilege to make another piece of work with the brilliant Slung Low- especially to be able to do that in Leeds- and to have a chance to step deeper into the world we created with Camelot: The Shining City."

You can watch the film for free from midday on Friday, May 1 by visiting www.slunglow.org/TGB.
