THE premiere date for a new Scottish show featuring an Outlander star has been announced.
The Ridge, a psychological thriller series filmed between Scotland and New Zealand, will be available on streaming from October 21 on BBC iPlayer. BBC Two will air the show from Thursday, October 23.
It stars Scottish Bafta winner and Outlander star Lauren Lyle as Mia, a woman fleeing addiction and leaving her professional life in tatters in Scotland after accepting a wedding invitation from her estranged sister in New Zealand.
According to the show’s synopsis, Mia finds her dead upon arrival and suddenly finds herself embroiled in a “dark attraction” with her late sister’s fiancé, played by New Zealand actor Jay Ryan.
Scotland’s Douglas Mackinnon, known for his work on Good Omens, Line of Duty and Doctor Who, co-directed The Ridge with Emmy-nominated Robyn Grace.
The show was created by author Nora Chassler and Bafta Scotland-winning producer David Murdoch, and co-written with Alan Campbell, Kate McDermott and Jess Sayer.
Alongside Lyle and Ryan, the cast includes Claire Dargo (River City, Doctors), Cora Bissett (The Bombing of Pan Am 103) and Taqi Nazeer (The Control Room, Shetland).
The Ridge was produced by Glasgow-based studio Sinner Films and New Zealand firm Great Southern Studios for BBC Scotland and Sky New Zealand Originals. Screen Scotland provided support during the show’s creation.
As well as being available through the BBC, the show will also be streamed in New Zealand on Neon, Sky Open and Sky Go.
