Premier League: Wednesday night's matches – in pictures
The Liverpool striker Luis Suárez was yesterday handed an eight-match ban by the FA for using "insulting language" towards Patrice Evra in October. But Charlie Adam's penalty was saved and Wigan deservedly earned a point. Jones has a suspected broken cheekbone and may be out for six weeks. Danny Welbeck began the rout in only the fifth minute, and substitue Dimitar Berbatov completed the scoring in the 90th. Meanwhile, Manchester City put three goals past Stoke City, including this goal – the first of the match – by Sergio Agüero in the 29th minute. Adam Johnson's fine long-range strike preceded another goal for Agüero. The visitors had twice squandered leads as Demba Ba equalised on two occassions – one in either half. The winner for West Brom lifts them into the top half of the table. Final score: 2-3Photograph: Lee Smith/Action ImagesWes Brown somehow converted this headed opportunity in the 89th minute of Sunderland's match at Loftus Road as they too secured a precious away victory. Sunderland led hosts QPR through goals from Nicklas Bendtner and Stephane Sessegnon before Heidar Helguson and Jamie Mackie strikes levelled matters. The win is Martin O'Neill's second in three match in charge of Sunderland. Final score: 2-3Photograph: Scott Heavey/Getty ImagesA solitary goal from Leon Osman earned Everton victory over Swansea. These two sides were the lowest scorers in the league going into the match, so it was little surprise that Swansea could not find an equaliser. Final score: 1-0Photograph: Nigel French/PAYossi Benayoun came off the bench to earn Arsenal victory against Aston Villa. A 34th goal of the calendar year from Robin van Persie had given Arsenal the advantage after 17 minutes. The Dutchman netted from the penalty spot, before Marc Albrighton equalised for Villa, scoring the 20,000th Premier League goal in the process. Benayoun's header put Arsenal level on points with Chelsea, who play Tottenham on Thursday. Final score: 1-2Photograph: Alex Morton/Action Images
