Premier League TV plans for 2020/21 season and how Leeds United benefit after promotion

Leeds United are on their way back to the Premier League.

For the first time in 16 years, the Whites will play top-flight football after securing promotion from the Championship.

For the last nine seasons, Leeds fans have been used to watching their side on TV under the EFL's broadcast plan which has - more often than not - been limited to Sky Sports, but next season, things will change following promotion to the Premier League.

Here's what you need to know.

What are the Premier League's TV plans?

Sky Sports will continue to dominate Premier League broadcasting next season, paying around £1.2bn per year for the privilege.

They will show 128 games next season, including Saturday tea time matches, Super Sunday, Monday Night Football, Friday Night Football and Saturday evening matches.

Sky will have the first pick of every weekend's matches as well as 14-second picks.

BT Sport will show 52 games, while Amazon Prime, like this season, will show 20.

What do Leeds United get from all that?

A lot.

The figures for next season won't be available yet but for the current season, each club earned a minimum of £82m from TV money.

On top of that, clubs earn facility fees, which are based on how many games are broadcast - and that could mean a significant extra payment for Leeds, who are likely to be attractive to broadcasters.

That money doesn't include prize money, which is separate from TV fees and given to all 20 clubs at the end of each season based on final league position.

What happened to the feast of football?

Premier League fans have been treated to a real feast of football since the restart with every single game being broadcast across Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and the BBC.

But it has since been confirmed that was a temporary measure.

Whether fans return to stadiums or not, the usual TV plan will resume from next season.
