Premier League trophy plans for Man City and Liverpool FC finale

The Premier League trophy that has resided at the Etihad all season will follow Manchester City down to Brighton for the final day of the season, ready to be lifted if Pep Guardiola's side are confirmed as champions.

With one point separating the top two, the Premier League has had to account for the possibility of crowning either City or Liverpool on Sunday. But there will be no helicopters hovering between the Amex and Anfield, with trophies, sets of medals and a presentation team at both grounds instead.

The trophies will be identical in design and look, with an engraved base detailing past champions but the 'champions' trophy that has been at the Etihad this year will be at Brighton while the one used by the league will be at Liverpool.

The Premier League winners will receive 40 medals, with every player that has made at least five league appearances this season to be presented with one after the final whistle and the rest to be given to other players and staff.

City and Liverpool will each nominate a local community champion to help present the trophy on Sunday.

The same trophy scenario was in place in 2012, when City hosted QPR as United travelled to Sunderland. Gareth Barry commented after the game that he had seen a helicopter above the Etihad as they trailed 2-1 and thought it was taking the trophy away, although that was not the case.
