Premier League transfer rumours: Man United's £89m Sancho bid rejected, Coutinho to Arsenal

The Premier League transfer window is officially open and a summer of toing and froing at the virtual negotiation table is now underway.

The top flight season came to a close on Sunday and just hours later, clubs up and down the league were given the go-ahead to begin their summer business.

Of course, the rumour mill turns freely throughout the season but the opening of the transfer window usually signals the start of an avalanche of transfer rumours.

This summer’s first day has been no different and below we run you through all the big headlines.

Man United see bid rejected for Sancho

Manchester United have seen a €98 million bid for Jadon Sancho rejected.

That’s according to Bild, who say United have finally submitted a bid for the Borussia Dortmund star.

Reports this morning suggested Man United didn’t want to pay more than £80m for Sancho, but Bild now say they have bid £89m and not even that will be enough.

The Mirror reported this morning that United’s pursuit of the England international could become the summer’s ‘long-running transfer saga’.

This failed bid would suggest that might just be accurate.

Barca eye Garcia

Barcelona are said to be keen on luring young defender Eric Garcia from Manchester City this summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga giants are keen on a move for the centre-back either this summer or January.

The report claims Barca see Garcia as a ‘potential substitute’ for stalwart Gerard Pique.

The 19-year-old, who is from Barcelona, is under contract at City until 2022.

Arsenal’s Coutinho bid ‘getting more strength’

Arsenal are said to be weighing up a loan deal ‘worth more than £27m’ for Barcelona misfit Philippe Coutinho.

According to Sport, Barca know they would need to take too big a loss if they were to attempt to sell Coutinho, so they are looking to loan him out again.

The Brazilian spent this season with Bayern having failed to fit in at Camp Nou following his big-money move from Liverpool.

The report says any club hopeful of landing Coutinho on loan next season would need to pay £18.2m as a loan fee and another £9.1m for his wages.

Despite those mouth-watering figures, Arsenal are mentioned as his most likely club.

The report says a move to the Gunners is 'gaining more strength every day'.
