Premier League transfer rumours: Man United eye Calhanoglu, Liverpool face Kabak competition

The Premier League is back at the weekend with another entertaining fixture list on paper.

With the summer transfer window now closed, teams are focusing on the on-the-pitch matters for now, but will be keeping half an eye on January.

The mid-season window is a great chance for managers to address some of the problems they've discovered in their squad during the early parts of the campaign.

On that note, here are the latest Premier League transfer rumours.

United interested in Calhanoglu

Manchester United are considering making an offer for AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Turkey international has less than a year remaining on his current deal with the San Siro-based club and is yet to agree on an extension.

Calhanoglu has started this season very well for Milan - scoring four and assisting the same amount in eight matches in all competitions.

With the 26-year-old after more money at the Serie A giants, Man United are prepared to offer him a larger salary, the report claims.

Liverpool competition for Kabak

AC Milan are set to rival Liverpool for Schalke centre-back Ozan Kabak, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Reports emerged that the Reds wanted to sign Kabak as a replacement for the injured Virgil van Dijk in January, although those claims have since been denied.

Now, if Liverpool are indeed keen on the 20-year-old defender, they will face stiff competition from Milan for his signature.

Milan are determined to strengthen their defensive line in the mid-season window and have identified the Turkish centre-back as a key target.

Phillips speaks on White's failed move

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has admitted that Ben White was left disappointed after his permanent move to Marcelo Bielsa 's side fell through.

White was key for the Yorkshire-based club in last season's title-winning Championship campaign, but returned to his parent club Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.

Phillips, speaking to the Leeds That podcast, said: "I spoke to Ben after his game the other day. Obviously, he was gutted at the time when he didn't sign, but it came to a point where you have to just forget about the chance to play for Leeds and just play football.

"I don't really talk to him about football now, just ask how he and his family are doing."

Lundstram set to leave Blades

John Lundstram is set to leave Sheffield United, after boss Chris Wilder confirmed the 26-year-old will not be signing a new deal at Bramall Lane.

Lundstram's deal in Yorkshire expires at the end of the 2020/21 season, and talks over a new long-term contract have now broken down.

Wilder said: "We have offered him a very good contract that is up there with the top players at the club and he has made the decision with his agent that he doesn't want to sign, and I respect that."

The Liverpool-born midfielder played an integral part in the Blades' impressive first season back in the Premier League last time around - scoring five goals in the competition.
