Premier League transfer rumours: Koulibaly confirmation, Werner admission, Leeds' £14m move

The Premier League season is now just one week away from starting and teams are doing everything they can to improve their squad before the campaign begins.

Due to the coronavirus crisis, clubs are perhaps a little bit more limited in what they can spend.

However, these clubs are still seeking any potential bargains in this unusual summer transfer market, as seen in today’s rumours.

With that being said, here are the very latest transfer rumours coming out of the Premier League.

Leeds: 2020/21 season in preview

Koulibaly to Man City latest

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that defender Kalidou Koulibaly can leave the Italian club this summer for the right price.

The 29-year-old centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Manchester City.

Napoli are reportedly on the brink of signing Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos - who could replace Koulibaly.

De Laurentiis said to Canale 21: "Koulibaly and Milik are both on their way out, transfer market permitting. So, if the transfer market allows us to sell these two excellent players, we will know how to replace them. If not, then we’ll discuss it again next year."

Werner rejected City before Chelsea move

Chelsea striker Timo Werner rejected a move to Manchester City before heading to Stamford Bridge, according to BILD, via the Daily Mail.

Werner moved to the Blues for £53 million from RB Leipzig earlier in the summer after reported interest from City and Liverpool.

According to German outlet BILD, City boss Pep Guardiola called Werner to try and persuade him to move to the Etihad Stadium.

However, the Germany striker rejected a chance to move to Guardiola’s side because he was guaranteed more game time for Chelsea.

West Ham bid for Burnley defender

West Ham United have made a bid of over £20m for Burnley defender James Tarkowski, according to Sky Sports.

David Moyes is keen to bring a new central defender in, and with the money generated from the sale of Grady Diangana, they have made the Clarets an offer.

A club statement read: “The money for Grady will be reinvested entirely in the team, in line with the manager’s targets. We believe that this will give us the best possible chance of ensuring we have a balanced squad to compete in the Premier League and capable of reaching our objectives and ambitions this season.”

Tarkowski signed for Burnley from Brentford back in 2016, and his form at Turf Moor has earned him two England caps.

Leeds chase Barcelona midfielder

Leeds United have enquired about signing Barcelona midfielder Rafinha, according to a report from Spanish outlet Sport.es.

Rafinha's future at Barcelona looks likely to come to an end soon, with the 27-year-old spending the last campaign on loan at Celta Vigo.

Barca want around £14 million for the Brazilian, the report states, with a buy-back clause in his contract, but Leeds are trying to sign him for less.

Rafinha is the younger brother of reported Liverpool target, Thiago Alcantara, and dreams of playing in the same league as his older brother.
