Chelsea's Champions League hopes boosted by disastrous Arsenal and Manchester United defeats

Chelsea have been the big winners in the race for the top four despite not playing a single minute of Premier League football this weekend.

Maurizio Sarri's side take on Burnley on Monday evening following defeats for Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners were left frustrated after missing a huge opportunity to cement their position in the Champions League qualification spots.

Solskjaer on Man United's fading top four hopes vs Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs after Everton loss

Unai Emery's side held a 10-game winning run at the Emirates going into their clash with Crystal Palace only to lose 3-2 to the Eagles.

Christian Benteke opened the scoring due to some horrendous defending, most notably by Shkodran Mustafi, before Mesut Ozil restored parity.

Arsenal were let down again by their German centre-back as Wilfried Zaha put the visitors back in front before James McArthur settled the match with a third goal. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back but couldn't spark a comeback.

Prior to kick off at the Emirates, Manchester United were humiliated at Goodison Park, losing 4-0 to Everton as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left without an answer when he was asked about whether his squad had the passion required to play for the shirt.

Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott inflicted the damage on United, who have now lost six of their last eight matches, and are two points off fourth place with four games left to play.

On Saturday, Spurs were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City in the third part of a series of games that saw Mauricio Pochettino guide his side into the semi-finals of the Champions League before losing in the Premier League.

These results have seen a shift in the betting market, as might be expected with Arsenal and United losing ground in the race for the top four.

United remain two points behind the Gunners after both lost, with Chelsea capable of rising up to third if they beat Burnley on Monday evening.

Tottenham are still the bookies' favourite to make the top four, priced as low as 1/6 by Betfair as they sit third in the table on 67 points.

Spurs player ratings vs Man City: Son & Sanchez superb, Alli impressive but Dier poor in loss

Arsenal have been priced down after their shock defeat to Crystal Palace but can be backed for as low as 8/13 with PaddyPower.

Chelsea were given a major boost in their hopes of reaching Europe’s elite competition and that was reflected in the market. Sarri’s men are now below odds on at 10/11, again with Betfair.

Arsenal’s defeat has given Manchester United a very unlikely life line, especially given they face Chelsea on Sunday at Old Trafford. That match is now must win for Solskjaer and Co, if they’re to somehow sneak into the top four.
